Mount Meru at 4,562 m is Kilimanjaro's underrated neighbour – and one of East Africa's finest treks. The lower slopes inside Arusha National Park are a genuine walking safari: giraffe, buffalo and bushbuck share the trail, and an armed TANAPA ranger accompanies every group.
This compact three-day itinerary suits fit climbers with limited time. Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut, then Saddle Hut with optional Little Meru acclimatization. Midnight summit on the dramatic crater ridge, sunrise at Socialist Peak, descent and transfer to Arusha.
