The Machame Route – nicknamed the Whiskey Route – is Kilimanjaro's most celebrated trekking corridor. This day hike from Moshi packs its lower rainforest and moorland edge into one unforgettable outing without committing to a summit expedition.
From Machame Gate at 1,800 m, climb through moss-draped podocarpus forest alive with birdsong. Reach Machame Camp near 3,010 m – the same first-night stop used by six- and seven-day summit climbers – for lunch with ridgeline views, then descend back to Moshi by late afternoon.
Hotel pick-up and 30-minute transfer to Machame Gate. Registration and pre-hike briefing with your guide crew.
4–5 hour climb through dense forest on the Machame trail – giant ferns, moss-covered trees and rich birdlife.
Picnic lunch at Machame Camp area with mountain panoramas. Rest and photograph before the descent.
Descend through forest to Machame Gate. Transfer back to your Moshi hotel.
