Overview
What makes this journey special
A guided 2–3 hour walk through the UNESCO-listed old town of Zanzibar – the slave market memorial, carved doors, bazaars and the seafront.
The Stone Town tour takes you around Zanzibar’s historic capital to experience the history, culture and architecture of the islands. It takes 2–3 hours, depending on the places you choose to visit.
Most of the important buildings are within the old town: the Anglican Cathedral built on the site of the former slave market, the house of the trader Tippu Tip, the Hamamni Persian baths, the Old Fort and the busy Darajani market for fish, fruit and spices.
Your guide also shows you the carved Zanzibar doors and leads you through narrow lanes where many houses are more than 150 years old. The tour combines well with a sunset dhow cruise or a spice farm visit.
