Four days of walking safaris, swimming holes and montane hiking across Kipengele Game Reserve and Kitulo National Park – Southern Tanzania’s nature and hiking experience from Iringa to Mbeya.

Depart from Iringa for the scenic drive into Southern Tanzania’s highlands, with guided walking safaris and time to swim in Kipengele Game Reserve before continuing to Kitulo National Park – the “Serengeti of Flowers” – for two nights in government bandas on the plateau.

Day three is an adventurous hike towards the waterfall and up Kipengele Peak for panoramic views over the Kitulo Plateau, with endemic plants and wild orchids along the trail. Finish with a sunrise walk on day four, then transfer to Mbeya for your scheduled flight to Dar es Salaam.

Day 2

Walking Safari, Swimming & Transfer to Kitulo National Park

Begin the morning with a guided walking safari in Kipengele Game Reserve, exploring the area’s natural environment and enjoying another opportunity for swimming. Enjoy a bush lunch surrounded by nature before departing for Kitulo National Park, renowned for its beautiful montane grasslands, open landscapes and unique botanical diversity. Arrive at Kitulo and settle into the government bandas. Dinner and overnight at Kitulo National Park government bandas.

Day 3

Hiking to Kipengele Peak & Exploring Kitulo’s Botanical Wonders

Spend the day on an adventurous guided hike towards the waterfall and up Kipengele Peak. Enjoy panoramic views overlooking the Kitulo Plateau and, weather permitting, views towards Makete town and the surrounding highlands. Along the way, discover the region’s remarkable plant diversity, including endemic species and the spectacular wild orchids for which Kitulo is famous. Your guide introduces you to the area’s unique vegetation, ecological importance and natural history – a day for hiking, photography, plant discovery and appreciating the tranquillity of the Southern Highlands. Return to the bandas to relax after the day’s adventure. Dinner and overnight at Kitulo National Park government bandas.

Day 4

Sunrise Walk – Kitulo – Mbeya – Flight to Dar es Salaam

Wake up early for a short morning walk to enjoy the sunrise and the peaceful atmosphere of the Kitulo Plateau. Return to the bandas for breakfast, then depart for Mbeya for your scheduled flight to Dar es Salaam. End of tour.

Arrival & transfers

This adventure starts in Iringa and ends at Mbeya airport for your flight to Dar es Salaam. Wild Gaze can arrange pick-up from Iringa town or airport and help book regional flights on request.
