5 Days Safari — Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro & Serengeti

Three of Tanzania's crown jewels in one immersive five-day journey — from the flamingo-fringed shores of Lake Manyara and the timeless Ngorongoro Crater to the limitless wildlife plains of the Serengeti.

Camping Safari
1 – 12 Persons

This five-day itinerary is one of our most celebrated northern circuit safaris, taking in three of Africa's most iconic wildlife destinations in a single, seamlessly organised journey. You begin at Lake Manyara — a park of surprising variety, where tree-climbing lions lounge on fig branches, massive elephant herds move through the groundwater forest, and vast flocks of flamingos paint the alkaline shallows pink. From there the safari rises to the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, one of the natural wonders of the world, for a full-day descent into a self-contained ecosystem unlike anywhere else on Earth.

The Serengeti forms the grand finale — an ocean of golden grass and ancient kopje rock formations stretching to the horizon in every direction, home to the greatest concentration of wildlife on the planet. Depending on the season, you may witness the spectacle of the Great Wildebeest Migration, when over 1.5 million wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle move in a continuous circuit across the ecosystem in search of fresh pasture. Even outside migration season, game-viewing on the Serengeti plains is consistently outstanding year-round.

All camping equipment, meals, professional driver-guide services, and park fees are fully included. Our guides are fluent in English, deeply knowledgeable in animal behaviour and bird identification, and are dedicated to delivering unforgettable wildlife encounters at every game drive. The tour starts and ends in Arusha, with no hidden costs or supplements.

Arusha → Lake Manyara National Park
Depart Arusha ~9:00am · 2 hrs drive · Afternoon game drive

Depart your hotel in Arusha after an early briefing and head west towards Lake Manyara National Park — just under two hours away and one of Tanzania's most rewarding half-day parks. The approach drops dramatically down the wall of the Great Rift Valley, and the park's entrance reveals an immediate shift from dusty road to cool, towering groundwater forest. The forest holds olive baboon troops, blue monkey families, and the occasional leopard resting unseen in the canopy above. Emerging from the trees onto the open floodplain you encounter the park's signature residents: tree-climbing lions at rest in the branches of yellow fever acacias, and vast family herds of elephants moving between shade and water. The alkaline lake itself — pink at its flamingo-fringed margins — forms a constant backdrop to the afternoon game drive. Return to camp for dinner and overnight near the crater rim.

Ngorongoro Crater — Full Day Descent
Early descent at dawn · Full day on crater floor · Ascent by 4pm

Rise before first light for breakfast and a pre-dawn drive to the crater rim to watch the sun rise over the 600-metre walls of the Ngorongoro Caldera — one of the most breathtaking views in Africa. The descent into the crater floor begins as the mist lifts from the bottom, revealing a 260-square-kilometre bowl containing an estimated 25,000 large animals. This is the best place in Tanzania — and one of the best in all of Africa — to see the critically endangered black rhino, as a small but stable population resides here year-round. Enormous black-maned lion prides reign over the crater floor, spotted hyena clans patrol in numbers, and hippos crowd the freshwater pools. Wildebeest, zebra, and buffalo move in dense herds across the short grass plains, while the soda lake shimmers with flamingos and a remarkable diversity of waterbirds. Enjoy a picnic lunch beside the lake before the ascent back to the rim in the mid-afternoon. Overnight at Simba Camp on the crater rim at 2,400 metres.

Ngorongoro Conservation Area → Serengeti National Park
Depart after breakfast · Via Olduvai Gorge · Game drive from Naabi Hill Gate

After breakfast at the crater rim campsite, depart westward along the rim road through the highland forest, descending gradually into the open short-grass plains of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. En route you will stop at Olduvai Gorge — one of the most important palaeontological sites on Earth, where Dr Louis and Mary Leakey discovered some of the earliest evidence of human ancestors. A brief guided visit to the gorge museum provides remarkable context for the ancient landscape you have been travelling through. The road then flattens and opens dramatically as you enter the Serengeti ecosystem at Naabi Hill Gate, where the plains stretch endlessly in every direction. Begin your first Serengeti game drive in the afternoon, scanning the short-grass plains for cheetah, lion, and the seasonal concentrations of wildebeest and zebra. Arrive at the Seronera camp area for dinner and overnight under an infinite star canopy.

Full Day — Central Serengeti Game Drives
Dawn drive · Picnic lunch in the bush · Sunset drive · Seronera overnight

A full, unhurried day in the heart of the Serengeti — the safari experience at its most elemental and rewarding. Rise before dawn and depart from camp as the first light touches the horizon, seeking the nocturnal predators that have been active through the night. The Seronera Valley — the richest game-viewing area of the central Serengeti — is home to year-round resident lion prides, leopards that favour the sausage trees along the river, large cheetah populations on the open plains, and a remarkable density of savanna birdlife. Depending on the time of year, your guide will position the vehicle to intercept migration columns, predator activity, or the quieter but equally compelling dry-season concentrations along the Seronera River. A bush picnic lunch follows the morning drive before heading out again in the late afternoon for the golden-hour drive that closes out one of the finest wildlife days in Africa. Dinner and overnight at Seronera camp.

Serengeti Morning Drive → Arusha
Early game drive · Exit via Naabi Hill · Arrive Arusha by evening

The final morning begins with one last game drive at sunrise — often the most memorable of the safari, when the light is extraordinary and predators are still on the move from their night's hunting. Spend two to three hours making the most of these precious early hours before returning to camp for a packed breakfast and a last look across the plains. The drive back to Arusha follows the same route through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a journey that still offers wildlife sightings — Maasai cattle sharing the highland pastures with zebra and wildebeest is a sight entirely unique to this part of Tanzania. Arrive at your Arusha hotel in the early evening, in good time for an overnight stay or onward connection to Zanzibar, Kilimanjaro, or your home destination. Congratulations — you have completed one of East Africa's finest safari journeys.
